Early last week, as the UK faced its hottest ever day on record, the High Court handed down an historic judgment in the case of (1) Friends of the Earth Limited (ii) ClientEarth (iii) Good Law Project and Joanna Wheatley v Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy [2022] EWHC 1831 (Admin), ruling that the Government’s Net Zero Strategy (the ‘NZS’) is in breach of the Climate Change Act 2008 (the ‘Act’).
