COP28 finished in the early hours of 13 December 2023, overrunning as parties sought to reach a consensus on a final agreement. The key topic of contention was how the parties should respond to the first global stocktake (GST). Alongside the formal negotiations, the conference hosted hundreds of side events and oversaw various announcements on climate action by governments, business and civil society.
