On 16 October, the Law Commission and the Scottish Law Commission opened a joint consultation on automated vehicles (AVs) to be used for passenger services and public transport. The consultation which closes on 16 January 2020 is part of a three-year project taking place between 2018 and 2021. This summary looks at the main provisions of the consultation but not some of the points of detail. The consultation paper considers vehicles which can drive themselves for whole journeys (albeit, probably on limited routes or within a particular geographical area).
