Joining FOIL
How to become a member of FOIL
Most FOIL Members are "Corporate Members" joined under their Firm's Corporate Subscription Rate. After consulting with members, the FOIL AGM on November 19th 2008 agreed the following fee level for members.
Membership of FOIL is open to Legal Practitioners who practice in the field of insurance law and whose practice comprises predominantly or exclusively of instructions to defend actions for or on behalf of insurance companies and self insurers (excluding legal expense insurers).
There are five categories of membership namely:
- Corporate Membership;
- In-House Corporate Membership;
- Individual Membership;
- Associate Membership; and
- Honorary Membership.
England and Wales Corporate membership
- A firm with an insurance law practice will pay a fee determined by the turnover of this practice.

Turnover between £1,000,000 and £5,000,000 |

Turnover under £1,000,000 |
£1,000.00 |
Scotland and Northern Ireland Corporate Membership = £1,000
In-House Corporate Membership
- organisations will pay a fee determined by the number of team members.
A team of 5 or fewer |
£1,000 |
A team of 6-15 |
£3,000 |
A team of 16+ |
£5,000 |
Any organisation with more than one member will be considered Corporate,
and
will be required to pay the appropriate corporate rate.
Individual Membership
- where corporate membership is not applicable, for
example,
retired practitioners, academics, sole in house counsel, barristers.
