About FOIL

The Purpose

FOIL exists to provide a forum for the exchange of information between lawyers acting predominantly or exclusively for insurance clients (except legal expenses insurers) either practising within firms of solicitors, as barristers or as in-house lawyers for insurers or for self-insurers. FOIL is also an active lobbying body on matters concerning insurance litigation.

The Benefits

The benefits of being a FOIL member include:

Access to all areas of the FOIL website including the private pages which contain private information, case reports and news.

Liaison with the ABI and Insurers, liaison with the Law Societies of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland (FOIL has its own representative on the Council of the Law Society of England and Wales), the Bar Council and other relevant bodies in the exchange and promotion of expertise and efficiency in the field of Insurance Law. Quarterly regional meetings to discuss local and national issues for insurance lawyers throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The opportunity to serve on the National Committee of FOIL.
The opportunity to monitor and advance law reform in matters of interest and liability for insurers.

Developing expertise by participation in the FOIL Conference and other occasional events.

The chance to network with lawyers in the same and other jurisdictions to promote a full exchange of information and knowledge including technology
The opportunity to join one or more of FOIL's eight Special Interest Groups and participate in drafting FOIL's responses to consultation documents.
